Length of pip awards?

Hi. I’m waiting on my review forms, I’m just wondering if I should make it clearer that my condition is never going to get better, it will only get worse. I have COPD, a lung condition.
On the original PIP form, the assessor had ticked the box for ‘function restriction affecting mobility activities is likely to remain for at least 9 months. This is clearly wrong.
When I then went to the MR stage, there doesn’t seem to be anything about it!

    Hi again - yes, do spell it out about your COPD. The decision maker doesn't have to have any medical knowledge so make it clear (& ask for that longer award!). If you get an assessor that doesn't know much about COPD, then you will have already written about it in your review form too. This is one of the times where your GP might help, or if you have any relevant specialists reports/letters that show this is an ongoing condition.

    Thankyou for quick reply. I know GP’s letters are expensive, but I think I will ask her for a letter. 
    So very pleased you are still on this fab forum. You really did give me great advice a few years ago. Scope is lucky to have you 🙂

    The 9 months is a standard PIP thing.  Conditions must be expected to last for at least 9 months to be awarded PIP.

    But yes, you can request a longer award.  I did at review and it was taken into account.  :)

    Ahh, Thankyou for that. Was that your first review? So pleased it was taken into account.
    Once again, I find myself a bag of nerves. Waiting on postman but not wanting it to arrive🤣 Once it does, I’ll get it sent, then worry some more about the dreaded assessment! Ridiculous to worry I know, as we can’t do anything until we know for sure. I just don’t want another MR stage, so this time, I shall write in detail.🙂

    Yes, first review.  :)   Much easier than the original award that I had to go through tribunal for! 

    I did have to wait a long time for the review forms to be read.  Not sure what the backlogs are like at the minute but just wanted to say it may be several months so try not to stress about it too much while you're waiting.

    I got around 7 years this time, which is a slightly odd length, but I'm content with that.  :)
