Housing

Hi, I have been on waiting list since jan ‘22 band A medical need. However, it seems that I am only able to bid on places that have been adapted. Can I challenge this & ask for adaptations to be done later? Where I currently live I cannot get out independently or get in/out of bath safely. I have been refused ramps & had several OH assessments to say this is unsuitable.
TIA

Hello @busybee23
Each council is different. You can certainly reach out to housing and ask this. I would also encourage you to think about reaching out to your local MP for more support0 -
Ty Hannah, I have contacted a local charity who help with housing for amputees, my MP/local councillor but nobody seems to get back to me. 😪0

Sorry to hear they haven't gotten back to you yet. Have you also thought about reaching out to Shelter?0

I have tried Shelter, Reach, CAB & had a couple of people get back to me & say they can’t help with this matter or just no reply. Where I currently live I can’t use bath safely, can’t get out independently & been told it’s not possible to have adaptations or even have ramps fitted. As you can imagine, this is having a detrimental effect on my health. Meanwhile I see on the website that people in same band as me getting same size property I need who have only been on register a matter of months

I'm sorry they were not able to help. I hope housing can help! Could the Occupational Therapist help by writing additionally to their report on your behalf?0

Unfortunately she’s the main one not getting back to me. Other than to say she understands how frustrating this is for me, but it’s on her to do list. I don’t even know what she means by this..if she’s even put in my most recent assessment 🤷♀️ Housing don’t answer phone (which is why I think ppl say they can’t help). I’m at a dead end & struggling daily (can’t even fit my chair in downstairs wc) & yest my HA boarded my staircase due to gaps being cpl mm too big, despite me explaining that I need banister as aid to get up & down safely on my bottom.0

I would reach out to your MP again. And keep reaching out to them and your OT. I know it is difficult and frustrating to always be the one chasing, but hopefully it'll get you sorted. Have you got someone who could reach out on your behalf too? Like a family member or friend? Just to help take that off you.

Thank you my MP is Matt Hancock..so yeah lol. Don’t hold out much hope of getting a reply. I have received a reply from my local councillor who has said he will do his best to help. Your advice is really appreciated, just sharing has been helpful0

So...I got a phone call yest saying sum1 wants to give me an assessment (same person from over a year ago) on 2/10...ok. Then today get reply from my local cllr, who forwarded an email he got from housing saying I’m unknown to adult SS. WTAF?! So confused with **** they are playing at!! If I’m not known to them..who approved my handrail & denied me ramps? Who rejected me for a property if I’m unknown to them? How could they poss know my needs if I’m not known. I really feel defeated..like they haven’t just ignored & forgotten me enuf 😡😤😢0

That sounds really frustrating @busybee23
do you feel comfortable challenging them about that, with reference to the examples you have provided here?

Honestly..I don’t know what to do.. Feel like going round in circles. I really don’t understand how they can say they don’t know anything about my situation yet someone was able to reject me for a house due to inadequate adaptations??Either they must know my needs or they have just rejected me for no reason. Currently 6-10 on a house so clearly they not got me as highest priority when I’ve been 1-5 before. It’s just do depressing that they can just ignore/forget about me when I’ve had so many assessments 😢0
