I used to get the lowe rate of DLA but was told to claim Pip even though I'm 71. I had help because I'm partially sighted and although I have some adaptations to my home I have no room for a shower. I can no longer get in the bath. My claim for Pip went in in April and I recently had a text message saying I was being awarded Pip. I have to wait 2'weeks for my letter so I've no idea what my award will be. I'm going into hospital on 3rd October for two weeks, My daughter has been paying for a carer so I can get a bath once a week. This is all wrong. I would have liked to know my award straight away to take the pressure off my daughter. Why can't you be told straight away? I won't be able to access my bank account in hospital because I worry about privacy. I'm told the money will be backdated but when can I see it into my account? Surely people in my age group need to know these details?

The reason letters can take up to 2 weeks once a decision is made is because all mail going from and to DWP has to go through a mail sorting process. The texts sent are standard texts that do not tell you what the actual award is.If you want to know what the decision is then you can ring PIP and they will tell you. The number to ring is 0800 121 4433, Textphone: 0800 121 4493.As you were transferring from DLA then i'm afraid you will not receive any money owed, this includes if your PIP award is higher than the DLA was.I don't know who told you that you would receive backdated money but they are not correct. You will receive 1 final payment of DLA and then it will stop. Your first PIP payment will be about 7 weeks after the decision was made.
