A question for those in employment/working and who claim PIP

prehaps in the future there will be appropriate environment to safely give staff from the dwp direct insight from the disabled if they truly want to find solutions for all parties.

However on here are either wary or hugely distrustful of the dwp (even though there are a few truly compassionate stuff working for the dwp in terms of job centre staff and those on the phone lines the problem is the few people at the top of the dwp letter are almost certainly not - mcvey, coffey and stride prime example from recent times)

The scope forum needs to offer a safe online space for the vulnerable - inviting members of the dwp to read or interact directly with this forum would impact this forums ability to remain a safe space.

Your sentiments come from the right place but your solution is not an appropriate one if that makes sense

@MW123 i just wanted to thank you for those very kinds words in your previous commnt. Some members i've helped more than others and one thing i don't usually forget are some of those i've helped in my time here, you are definitely one of them. When members such as yourself appreciate the help, it makes it all the more worth while.

I also wanted to just put your mind at rest that i can assure you that you didn't say anything wrong in your previous comment. My comment and Jimms was referring to another members comment, that comment has since been removed from the thread. As it's been removed it now makes both of our comments look rather odd and seems like we are talking about someone else's comment. I apologise that you thought it was yourself. Most of the time when i'm responding to someone on a thread i will quote that comment, so my comment makes sense but this time i didn't quote the comment. - shakes head- I can't ever recall such a time where any of your comments were anything but friendly and supportive!

Hi @MW123 - I would like to say that I indeed took your reply to be in the metaphorical sense that if only, & you used the word 'could,' the DWP could see the problems that many people on this forum face with benefits. I'd also like to say I always read your comments with interest, & find them informative.

I 'think' a thought that may have been there, & which I took Jimm's reply to be about due to his choice of words, was about another member's recent comment, not your own; just that your comment reminded them of what another had said.

I took your reply to be much in the sense that I feel many of us would say, ''if only an assessor 'could' spend a day in our shoes, they might just understand what we face.''

I also feel that any of us can inadvertently choose the wrong word(s), including neurotypicals, but when you get to know the person a little, you know when there's never any ill intent. This is not to say I haven't learnt how much more difficult it can be for some with ASD, just we all can unintentionally get it wrong on occasion.

Edited to add I've just noticed poppy's post....I will keep on forgetting to refresh the page! I hadn't seen the comment that had been removed, but was fairly sure who Jimm was referring to.

Tbh I think it was a little easier to understand when the Scope team deleted a post saying it was misleading/inaccurate, or didn't follow the community house rules for whatever reason, but you could see who had made the post, which hasn't happened in this instance.

I certainly wasn't inferring it was yourself either @apple85 It does cause some confusion when this sort of thing happens. I had also missed the post, & the difficulty is, as poppy said, then subsequent posts then may make no sense as a reply has been made to a post that no longer exists!

Not only that people post anonymously here and mostly use a random username. Giving personal information here is also against the rules and to reveal your exact location also isn’t allowed.

I can only see that comment as scaremongering. It concerns me to think that members reading that will become frightened and stop posting here. We have a lot of members that suffer greatly with their mental health and comments such as that will not help them in the slightest.

Many people rely so much on forums like this for advice, general support and sometimes friendships.

I would agree - without any personal information they would not be able to tie the comments to anybody.
However what I can say is that the DWP/HMRC and others do have access to the Tesco Clubcard and Sainsburys Nectar accounts which give a good idea of what a person's spending habits and lifestyle are. Also they do regularly trawl Facebook looking for information/pictures etc but once again they will have to identify the person concerned first.

However, upon revisiting my post, I recognise the potential for it to have been interpreted differently. This has emphasised the importance to me of greater mindfulness in my choice of words. I now understand that Jimm's comment was not directed at me personally, and I am a person open to constructive feedback, especially in a diverse community like this one, where a multitude of perspectives abound.

I apologise for any confusion I may have caused. I prefer to not delete or edit unless the situation really demands it. I also prefer we talk issues out if possible. However, that does have to be weighed against the health of the rest of the community.

I'm happy to have a discussion with anyone who wants clarifying on this.

This is also a good time I think to remind people to be careful with what you post online. Not because of the DWP, but because of any possible entity who may try to use the information against you. Hi I have a query so I receive pip for my mental health issues as suffer with anxiety and depression had a review recently which I passed but was stated the MA thinks I have high anxiety level and that my symptoms will last next 6 years so awarded until 2030.

Now I have a opportunity to start work in the retail industry and just wanted to know will my pip get affected or stopped? Or can people with anxiety etc work in the retail industry.

Congratulations on your new job, Welshlad! Since 2018, I've been receiving PIP, and have successfully maintained employment as PIP is not contingent on your ability to work. As long as your new role aligns with the PIP descriptors you originally claimed, I don't anticipate any issues. It's important to inform your new employer about any situations that may trigger high anxiety levels, so they can provide necessary support. While you haven't shared specific details about your job, I believe working in retail can be a pleasant experience if the demands are manageable. Wishing you all the best in your new role!
