Hi,

I'm 38 and have ME. Recently my weak muscles and aches got so bad that I now need to use crutches to walk.

I have worked most of my life but recently had a relapse.

I am a bit nervous as I'm being assessed for work capability for Universal Credit in Scotland. Any tips you can give me?

    Hello @ChrisDMoran85

Welcome to the community! :) How are you today?

I'm so sorry your health has been getting worse. Can I ask, have you got support around you for that?

Please don't be nervous about your work capability assessment. What tips are you looking for? Citizen's Advice can support you with the writing side of it if needed :)

    Hi Hannah,

Thank you for your message. I'm actually on a good day. How are you? Only one crutch is needed 😊

I've filled out the form but awaiting a face-to-face assessment. Home visit preferably.

Assessments are now mostly by telephone. Some are either face to face at an assessment centre or video call. Home assessments haven't taken place since before Covid.

During the assessment you'll be questions about your health conditions and how they affect your day to day life. You should make sure you don't answer any question with just a yes or no. Doing this can lead the assessor to come to their own opinion. Try to give as much information as possible.

The assessment can last anywhere from 20 to 120 minutes. Once the report is written and returned to DWP a decision can take up to 12 weeks.

    Hello @ChrisDMoran85

Good I hope those good days continue! :) I'm doing well thank you.

Hopefully it won't be too long a wait. Just to add on to what Poppy has said. You can have someone with you during the assessment too for support. If needed.
