Pip review confusion

Hi, Long time no post!! I originally claimed pip in 2020 and was declined on account of getting zero points but after going through MR and a tribunal I was successful and was awarded standard for both living and mobility which was a huge relief. I had my first review form sent in Feb 2023 which like a lot of people has taken months to be processed due to the backlog however, last week a received a text message saying:

*Your PIP review is complete. You should receive your decision letter in 2 weeks. Once you receive your letter, contact us if you have any questions. Do not call before you get the letter as we will not be able to tell you the decision. Please remember to contact us if your circumstances change*

I have not had a assessment or any form of contact other then texts, I'm now worried that I may of been 'written off' without trial (so to speak)...I don't relish the idea of going through an MR or tribunal again...can they just assess people without seeing or speaking to them these days?? I know I'm jumping to conclusions and seeing the worst case scenario but I can't help it when dealing with pip again :(

Thanks in advance for any replies

Sounds like you've had what's known as a paper based assessment. It means they had enough of information to write the report without the need for an assessment. In my opinion, it's a good thing and i've heard of very few people being refused after a paper based assessment.

Although the text advised you not to ring them, you can of course ring them anytime you want to. They open at 9am on Monday, if you ring then and ask them what the decision is hopefully they can tell you.

Thanks Poppy...I'll see how I feel on Monday whether or not I'm brave enough to phone them...honestly they terrify me. I'll update on here when I find out one way or another incase its happening to more people these days

Thanks again for your input, I just called the automated line and it would appear my rates have stayed the same ie standard on both so no change, obviously I need to wait for the letter to know for sure and for how long but at least I can breath for now :)

That’s good news though, no stress of assessment as well. I have mine next week and really nervous!

Just to add a further update, I just bit the bullet and phoned them to speak to someone, I have defiantly been awarded the same standard rate for both mobility and living, I asked how long was this award for and she said it was ongoing and next review will probably be 2033 ...I'm a bit stunned, I was expecting it to be difficult seeing as I won via a tribunal after scoring 0 points initially ...thanks again scope for being on the other side of the screen through all this

Excellent news @Cardiff_Central1, I'm so happy for you!  Not having to worry about reviews for ten years is massive. :)

Hey there @Triby5467 I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with your tribunal, it's a tale I'm hearing quite a lot thankfully!
I understand the worry of waiting for the review though, I'm in a similar position, the waiting is the worst bit!  But we're all here to offer support if you need it?

They say its fine cos your award is extended until review, but its not fine with complex ptsd and the not knowing if its gunna stop any day.

It’s exactly the same for everyone going through these reviews but there’s nothing anyone can do about the backlogs.

I was told by pip today its still with them so its likely a paper review. The lady said it would of been with an independent one by now if it was an independent review as my review was due october. Is that correct from experience?

For reviews forms are sent to the decision maker first. From there they will take a look to see if a decision can be made without needing to send everything to the health assessment providers.

It’s normal for there to be a considerable delay in sending everything across. Paper based assessments are rare but possible.
