Hello Community!
I've had contradictory info from CAB/support-movement sources: PLEASE can someone clarify?
My adult non-dependent son is back home temporarily having graduated from uni earlier this year & has just started 12hours' work a week (temp contract til jan)
I am in receipt of support-group ESA..
Does his living at home/ work affect my ESA ?
(Housing benefit/Council tax have already assessed the change of circumstances for those benefits)
Thank you

If your ESA doesn't include the Severe disability Premium then it won't be affected. If it does then your son must either be registered blind or be claiming a qualifying disability benefit himself, such as PIP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or ADP daily living.

Thank you so much .
Local CAB told me I'd at least lose the limited work-capacity bit, if not more, & LA Housing benefit dept have already taken a big chunk of that support.. so left us feeling we couldn't afford to live together/has been feeling like we're being split up , which has been so distressing , as there's 'just us', myself & 2 sons.. no extended family .. anyway, thank you x0 -
At 21 and working PT your son can probably claim Universal Credit, and contribute to the household costs from his income.0

That’s terrible advice from Citizens Advice. Regardless of which group you’re in for ESA you will not loose that. This is money for you and nothing to do with your sons. Are you claiming a disability benefit yourself such as PIP, DLA or ADP?Are your sons under or over 21?Is the one that just left Uni under 25?Sorry for all the questions just trying to help you.0
