Pip renewal

Hello I’m hoping someone here can help me with some advice on pip renewal as there appears to be a lot of conflicting information 
I should I suppose make it clear to avoid confusion that I am officially registered as my husband’s appointee and all letters do come directly to me
my husband was granted full PIP when I applied on his behalf in 2021 up to October 2024
my understanding was that I would hear from the DWP(PIP) 12 months before this ended but so far nothing has been received 
I have tried to carry out research but  its all very confusing and conflicting despite what I have read there is no information on his original letter as to when/if renewal will be discussed unless it’s the statement that I will be contacted approximately 12 months before to discuss any changes in his circumstances which obviously hasn’t happened 
My concern is that if I leave it to the recommended 6 months before the end date and contact them to then reapply I will cause all nature of problems 
my husband suffers from extreme anxiety and other mental health issues so not something I can ever discuss with him due to the further problems that would cause 
so I could do with some clear non conflicting advice

The original letter of pip was for over 3 years so does that mean he will automatically be reassessed for a renewal ? The letter is vague and not clear

Do I just wait to hear from the DWP(PIP) if so how long might that take ?

should I contact them direct to ask what is happening ? If so when should I do this

the recommended 6 months wait before contacting them seems a short period of time if I have to reapply all over again but i don’t want to create problems by contacting them too soon or offend anyone in my search for information 

I would really appreciate some unambiguous advice in the most simplistic terms possible as I find this all so confusing

    At the moment they are starting reviews about 8 months before the award is due to end. Sometimes they send a text telling you the review has started and to expect the form in the post within the next 2 weeks.

    It will be a review form you receive so a shortened version of the PIP2 form. Please make sure you treat it as a new claim and put as much relevant information as possible, even if there's been no changes.

    Currently there's very long delays with many review decisions so you could be waiting a considerable length of time for a decision. His award will continue as normal until a decision is made on the review, assuming the long delays are continuing when it's time for his review.

    You're welcome. My PIP award is due to end the end of June 2024. I received a text on 30th October telling me the review has started and i think it was about 10 days later i received the form. You can also ring to ask them to extend the time to return it and they will give an extra 2 weeks.

    I was just so worried about not hearing from them and then so worried about contacting them in advance in case I caused problems

    Glad you've been re-assured :) I can understand the worry in contacting them and also about not hearing from them. It can certainly be unclear, especially when they have a backlog so are starting later than when they state.

    I’m very grateful for the information but I’m not completely reassured on a personal level
    I see the system they are operating which gives me an insight but there is always the worry of what to do if I don’t hear from them especially if their perimeters keep changing 
    will things be complicated if I contact them and when should I do this are my constant underlying concerns

    I'm sorry my advice hasn't reassured you. I'm giving advice based on my own very recent personal experience and many other threads here. (assuming the decision was made by DWP and not a Tribunal)

    You can ring PIP at anytime, it will not affect the PIP claim. However, please be aware that when ringing any DWP department you're speaking to someone from a call centre, who will have very limited knowledge so you may not be given the correct advice.

    If you don't hear anything about 8 months before the award is due to end then ring them to ask about the review.

    Backlogs have been in place since just after the pandemic so i can't see anything changing anytime soon.

    Sorry Poppy I didn’t mean to offend you and as previously stated I do very much appreciate the advice and information you have given me
    the problem I have is much of my husband’s constant anxiety effects me and I’m always projecting what if this happens or what if that happens and how will we cope
    I realise there are no definite answers to these issues but my fears are a constant as the running of the household has fallen to me
    but I am so grateful for your advice and help which far exceeds anything I have found so far
