My PIP Journey so far.....

Good morning

Firstly, I have created this new post as I wasn't too sure how to change the title of my previous discussion.  I hope this has not caused any confusion.

I would like to start by saying a very big 'thank you' to all those who answered my previous questions along with all the invaluable advice given.  I would also like to add that just reading the many discussions on this Forum have helped me hugely with any queries I had.

So..... I applied for PIP in September '22 and had my video assessment in December '22.  I was awarded 6 points for the Living component and 0 for Mobility.  I received my assessment report in January '23 and applied for an MR.  This again came back with no change.

February '23 I completed my application for a Tribunal Hearing. I sent further medical evidence as and when received by my Dr or Hospital that only related to the conditions that were relevant to my application.  I had thought about cancelling the Hearing on a couple of occasions as DWP responded with 'no change' on the many times that new evidence was sent and my feelings were deflation and 'maybe I am just wasting everyone's time'.

I periodically checked the Tribunal webpage for a Hearing date and although I could see mid November that a Hearing had been booked, I was unable to see when a date or time.  I called the Helpline who informed me this was being held via video link on the 12th December.  I received a letter shortly after confirming this and advising that I would receive a link and passcode the day before the Hearing to join which I did via email.

I was nervous but as I had nothing to hide, I went in with an open mind.  There were 3 people visually on the panel; a Judge, a Doctor and another person but I cannot remember what title they held.  The respondent from DWP joined the panel remotely.

All of the panel were very welcoming.  They asked various question/scenarios that related only to my application and I was never felt rushed to answer these.  You also have an opportunity at the end to add anything you feel relevant that had not been discussed during the Hearing.  My Hearing lasted approximately 40 minutes.  Once finished, I was advised that a letter would be sent to me with the outcome but I looked on the Tribunal webpage around 10 minutes after and the outcome letter was there.  This showed that my Living component remained at 6 but I was awarded enhanced Mobility at 14 points.  I was shocked but very pleased to see I had won.

From my side, all I can say that is I'm pleased I went ahead with the Hearing. Please continue with your application if you can as the Tribunal are totally independent from DWP and they do want to hear your side

If you are currently waiting for your Hearing date, please stay strong and I would like to wish you all a very Healthy 2024

Heya @Dawn2ex thanks for sharing your journey.  They can often be super helpful for others to read. <3

Tribunals often sound terrifying, but I found them to be the easiest bit, they actually seem to care. I'm so glad they managed to help you.

Good afternoon May I ask if anyone has called DWP and got their payment date and amount via the automated system.  Do you know if the payment amount given is for the monthly payment only or does it include any back payment please?

    Thank you

It doesn’t include any money that maybe owed to you, it only includes the 4 weekly payment.

Also do be aware that it has been known to give incorrect information.
