Have I been tricked ?

I got my original ‘zero points’ letter from DWP on the 23rd of November.

but underneath their address on the front page of their letter is the date 1 November and they state I’ve a month to respond from the date on the letter.

i sent my reply on the 15th of December. 

I know to assume stupidity before overt malice, but Jesus I think this stinks of wilful neglect if it’s the case .

    If this is for either a Mandatory Reconsideration or an appeal you have one month but you have a total of 13 months to request a mandatory reconsideration or appeal if you have good reasons for sending in a late request. So for example if you have been unwell because of your disability or mental health condition or you have been waiting for support or evidence then this can be used as a reason for sending in a late request.

    Heya @SonOfYorick unfortunately there can often be big delays with letters from the DWP reaching you, especially in the pre xmas rush. As Nasturtium has said, you've got time still.

    I called them up , they said it was an honest backlog issue and they’ve reset the deadline to compensate for it.
    but also that I still had a month to reply, so good job I decided to chase them up yesterday!

    This is what you achieve when you ring the call centre, misleading information. There's no deadline to reset because you have 13 months to request it, as advised by nasturtium.

    If you requested the MR over the phone and told them you will send extra evidence then please be aware that they do not have to wait for the evidence to be sent before they make another decision. As soon as you request it a decision can be made at anytime. This is one reason why we usually advise you to put the request in writing.
