Stairlift / new carpet .

Hi everyone

I’ve got a question if you don’t mind , if someone knows the best way about doing it please .

I’ve no idea of the admin involved.

I’ll be getting a new stairlift fitted soon. Replacing the one that’s in now.

I’d like to replace the carpet up the stairs , as it’s seen better days . This is where my question lies.

Does the carpet that’s in now, get taken out , when they remove the old stair lift. ? Then the new carpet has to get cut around the new one after being put in.

Because I can’t imagine the stairlift guys hanging around with the new one , waiting for the man to turn up and fit the carpet . Then they can get on with fitting the stairlift etc.

thanks if anyone can shed any light on it. I’m just trying to get organised before it comes ( no date yet. But should be a month maybe)

They do not remove the existing carpet when they remove the stairlift.

Could you afford to order a new carpet to be fitted after the stairlift ?

They may not be paying for the stairlift thereself. I'm having mine installed within the next month and it's not costing me a penny. It's all funded by my LA.

Yes, poppy is correct. I’m not paying for it. So basically then I’ll be looking at someone cutting round the old carpet . Where the stands are. Getting the rest of it up?! Then the new one getting laid down , and cut around the stands to fit

Having done a google search for this, it may not be possible to remove the stairlift to fit your new carpet but you'll need to speak to the carpet fitter to know for sure. (assuming you'll be using an expert carpet fitter)

I don't currently have a stairlift as only just moved into my new house. I had capets fitted before i moved in so the stairlift can easily be fitted on top, without any damage.

Thanks poppy, yes that’s what happened with the one that’s in now. Had new carpet before it was installed .

Found out yesterday , what they do , is take the old stairlift out . Put new one in on same carpet ( which common sense , as the stairlift guys not going to be waiting for a fitter turn up)

then a fitter cuts around the leg stand things to free up the rest of it , to remove .

then when he fits the new one, he cuts around the leg stand to fit it. So effectively you’ve got abit of ‘old carpet’ under the leg stands and new around it.

Been told it’s going take 5 hours to remove and install new one in its place

My son uses a stair lift and I had this problem. I spoke to the stair lift  fitters and carpet fitter which I arranged and paid for ahead of time. The two companies worked together without any issue.
The stair lift lads took their lunch break after removing old lift. The carpet fitters fitted the new carpet in this time. Worked out no problems. I gave each specialist the others phone numbers with their permission and they did the rest. No issues at all. An explanation was all that was needed. Most people will try to help out so it’s worth trying. Good luck
