Refused Motability
Comments

That is very sad and I haven't gone over the limit for nearly 3 years. I merely wanted to know if anyone had experienced rejected motability. I don't need to be made to feel guilty or to be told how much its all going to cost me. Its not helpful atall.1

Advice on how to leave this judgemental group would be helpful1

@sammywilds ... I apologise for my choice of words.
It could have and should have been worded better.
Unfortunately too late to edit now, but I still offer the apology publicly
I wasn't intending to cause distress by stating the fact that premiums will be costly due to the nature of the offences
I hope you can resolve your issues with Motability and be back on the road soon1 -
Hello @sammywilds I'm sorry you wish to leave the community. As mentioned you can contact the team about this by emailing community@scope.org.uk, with your username and email.0

I am in a similar position to Sammy Wilds, however DirectLine are now Motability’s insurers ( before it was Royal Sun Alliance). 3 of my points are ‘served’ on 19 March, 2024 but I have lost my appeal, with DL stating that I cannot drive until March 2025- an extra year! (4 years instead of 3. The Head of Insurance is Lee McConnell - is this the same person that I could email a last plea for help? And could I have help with this letter? I struggle to be concise! Thanks 🙏 in advance!0

I am not sure who I sent the email to but I it was my last ditch attempt. I explained the impact not being able to drive would have on our lives and our independence and quality of life. I also put how I have never claimed on my insurance and always got the good condition payments and that for the six years of having motability cars they were returned with not even a scratch. I really hope you are successful. Good luck1

Yes, I was refused even after appeal. I emailed the Head of the insurance company as a last resort and she overturned it.2

Thabks again- I found out today that we can get the new car - but I have to have another driver which is a bit limiting -it is really unfair as 3 years are served on 19 March ( I was going 1 mile over the limit to qualify for speed awareness and they didn’t listen to my explanation- the road my mother lives on changes to wide open fields with 40 mph signs both sides - even one at the roundabout ( I mean who in their right minds is going to be doing that?) the first sign however has been removed and just a speed camera sign instead - there is nothing explicit saying 39mph and I said I can even show photographic evidence, but they weren’t prepared to listen. I had just left my son with my elderly mother while I popped out to the shops and I got a call from her to say he was having an epileptic fit- naturally I panicked and rushed back, not realising the speed limit was now 39 - but with no sign to say so. Direct lines decision not to grant me this, even when the court ruled in my favour is both lacking in compassion, fairness and wisdom. Furthermore, when they sprung it onto me that day that I could no longer drive, this massively impacted upon both myself and my son- we live in a place where we are totally dependent on the car ( I would never have moved here without one) and the following night when we had to get a bus, my son could not cope- he had the biggest meltdown I have ever witnessed and alighted the bus in an unknown place and ran off - this was the East Lancashire Road - the UK’s first purpose-built inter-city highway- and later the police found him on a motorway! It astonished me that people can be so callous and rule bound when people’s life is at stake, particularly when they are being paid to serve the needs of disabled people - this shows it is ‘profits before people’ and why they believe they can act above the law, demanding 4 years for going 1 mile over speed awareness limit - when the law says 3 is just staggering - I am now taking it up with the ombudsman
as they have said they are not engaging with me anymore. I will keep you posted on the ombudsman’s final decision xx0 -
I am so sorry to hear this. Have you sent all this information to the head of Insurance? That was the only thing that overturned mine. I too have a son with autism and epilepsy so I know exactly how you feel. When I appealed it was RSA so I'm not sure about the new insurers but it's definitely worth a try. I've also written to my local mp before when I had another issue and he helped me. Keep fighting for this as a parent of special needs you've got this!!! Good luck1

@rayoflight Welcome to the community! I am so sorry it's got to the point you have to go to the ombudsman about this and hope they are able to help. I hope the outcome is in your favour!0

sammywilds said:Yes I know. I just wondered if anyone else has appealed and won. Might give me some hope.
The issue is that you are putting yourself and others in danger by speeding so much so you will need to deal with that first.0 -
I am sure she knows all of this. Her son was having a seizure and from experience she was probably extremely stressed and worried and so was going a couple of miles over the limit to get to him. Some comments on here are not helpful atall and seem quite judgemental. She doesn't need to be told to address it I'm sure she is doing that already.0

The original poster has not even responded to my comment yet.
For some reason you seem offended on behalf of the original poster?
Kindly do not assume the original poster will be offended because then it's you that is being judgemental.0 -

Does she need to be told by you she's putting herself and others in danger? Surely your just adding more guilt. I know first hand how these type of unhelpful comments can make you feel.1
