My friend gets attendance allowance and pension credit, but looks after a nearly blind deaf lady, she was told she might get the carer element of pension credit added to her pension credit, so Firstly could she? and how would she ask about that!? secondly if she gets that will it not affect her pension credit adversely or stop the blind ladies pension credit ! Advise please

When claiming Pension Credit, it’s known as carers premium and not carers element.

Does the person they look after claim a qualifying disability benefit such as PIP/ADP daily living, DLA mid/high rate care or AA?

The person caring would need to make a claim for carers allowance. If their state pension is more than the carers allowance they can’t be paid it. They will have any underlying entitlement to it which means the carers premium will be included in the pension credit calculation of the person caring. It will not affect the other persons pension credit.

If they are claiming Severe disability Premium in with pension credit then this isn’t affected by someone having an underlying entitlement to carers allowance.

Just to add, it’s not the person caring that needs to be claiming a disability benefit. It’s the person they are caring for that needs to be claiming it. https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/eligibility
