Hi, my name is MyHappy256! How long is it until a Motability car gets released by the dealer?

2-3 weeks ago I ordered a Motability car, 8 in stock at the port, I got the colour I wanted the trim, but had to buy digital side mirrors I didn't want rather than factory order, so in addition to paying max AP,I also had to pay more again on top of this.

Been told that my car might be delivered to dealer soon, but wondering once the dealer has it, how long it takes before they are allowed to release it, as in does the 4 day rule then apply and do you have to wait another 4 days before you can collect it.

All assuming it actually arrives, desperately need car for attending hospital and GP appointments and doing more than taking taxi from A to B, truly understand what lack independence is as I sit here on my hospital bed at home unable to go out at all unless by taxi or by going out in my own car.

It will depend on the dealer and how long it will take them to do everything they need to do for it to be on the road. My current car was 5 working days from being delivered to the dealer to collecting it. Your dealer will be able to tell you how long it will take after delivery is taken.

Hello @MyHappy256, as Poppy mentioned I think this would probably vary from dealer to dealer. Perhaps you could contact your dealer to see when it would be available.

Just so you know, I've moved your post over to our transport section where more members can find it and share their experiences. And of course, welcome to the community!

Hope you're able to collect your car soon :)

Thank you, I have been in contact with the dealer, the salesman who dealt with my order is away on leave and his manager is dealing with the matter, unfortunately it feels as if my asking for an update is a nuisance to him and reception is so poor getting through to the dealer, I thought I would rather try and reach out.

The manager said the car might be delivered on the 29thno guarantees and then they would make an appointment for collection when it was available.

So rather than phone the dealership and be a nuisance, I figured I would reach out and try and find what was meant by available, is it the 4 day rule, do they have to spend the time updating some back office paperwork after the car has arrived and then do checks, charge it etc. and get  it  all ready for collection?

I personally would have expected the manager to either email me back or phone me to let me know that the car had or hadn't arrived as expected, but today is the original eta and still no mention of an update from them.

I'm not aware of any 4 day rule. How long it takes to prepare it once delivery has taken place will depend on the dealer. Some are quicker than others. I'm on my 3rd mobility vehicle and for each one i've always been contacted when delivery has taken place to arrange a day for collection.

Hello @MyHappy256. Tagging someone on the community is when you put an @ infront of their username. For example if I just wrote MyHappy256 you won't receive a notification but if I tag you like @MyHappy256, you should.
You're more than welcome to reply to anyone or link posts. :) Hope that helps.

Sorry, i didn't see your comment until now. Quoting comments from me is fine. I just prefer people not to specifically tag me with the @before my name.

When the car first reaches the port it is then subject to a number of stages that define how long it will take to reach the dealership and then be released for you to pick up.

First thing that happens is that it will be placed in a holding area ready for transportation. At this point its a bit like waiting for a build date slot for the car. The time it remains waiting to be transported can vary a lot. I've spoken to people who have waited only a couple of days for their car to be moved to the dealership and I've spoken to others who've waited 6 weeks. Normally though its fairly quick.

Once it reaches the dealership they then have to do a load of pre-release checks before they turn the car over to you and do all the registration admin. Depending on how busy the dealership is this usually takes anything from a few days to a week.

Once all this stuff is done you can pick up the car.

The entire process has no set time but from arrival in UK to pick up could be anything from a week to 6 weeks but about 2 weeks seems to be the average

So it eventually took 4 weeks for my car to be transported from port to the dealer (even though it was in stock at the port). Such a relief to have a car instead of having to travel back and forth by taxi, usually have to go into the hospital every other week and go to the GP, now I can do all of these and collect my prescriptions, even started doing some shopping and attending gym rehab, though since my latest operation I am forbidden from exercising at the moment.
