Hi, my name is harty22! Would I get PIP back pay if I've been signed off since 2014?

I am currently in receipt of ESA payment, but I have been in receipt of doctors certificate signing me off not fit for work since 2014. I’m now going for PIP payments. Would I get this back paid

    Welcome @harty22 :)

    I'm not fully certain, but I don't think you would receive any back pay if you've only just started your PIP claim this year. I know some of our lovely members will have more knowledge on this than I do, so hopefully they'll be able to offer a more solid answer, but I do think it is unlikely you'd get back pay. Have you claimed PIP before or will this be the first time?

    No, you will not. If successfully awarded it will be from the date you rang to start your claim. No one is automatically entitled to PIP, unless you have a terminal diagnosis of 12 months or less left to live. Even then it would not be backdated to an earlier date.

    I know you are correct, but if you look at poppies comment, she clearly states that you have to be diagnosed terminally ill or only have 12 months to live

    I think you'll find poppy is correct and you are actually wrong, you can work and claim PIP its not for people who cannot work but struggle to do everyday tasks (search PIP descriptors). Its not backdated and only starts from when you call and ask for an application for PIP. You cannot contact PIP via email, you can only email the assessment services when your application is passed to the assessment service.

    PIP isn't about a diagnosis, so fit notes do not help with PIP nor do doctors notes. You can send evidence however what you need to do is write an A4 sheet for each descriptor for how you struggle, what they consequences were when you did them and if anyone witnessed you doing them.

    Poppy was mearly saying that the only people automatically entitled to PIP without going through an assessment or full application are those who are terminally ill with 12 months or less to live, there was no need for your comment at all especially when all she was doing is helping you and giving you Correct Information.

    I really hope Poppy doesn’t reply to you as your comment should be as below her as it should be to you.What a self centred, horrible and downright nasty comment to make. 

    Instead of taking aim at people why don’t you re read Poppies comment again and have a rethink about what she was trying to say. She is absolutely correct in what she has said and likely knows more about the process of PIP than anyone else here. The forum is full of people who Poppy has helped and the forum would be a more misinformed place is she didn’t take the time to contribute.

    I can’t really be bothered answering but for the sake of clarification and in the hope that you won’t continue to post, you will not get backdated money from being sick since 2014, you would only get backdated money should your application be successful and this would be backdated from the date of your application.

    Hopefully the mods reading this will block or remove harty22 access as the comments are completely out of line.
