Hello
Will be filling in form re above protected transition from WTC to UC in a few weeks.
Am self employed and receive pip for a disability. Will claim UC for a year as have over £16,000 in savings.
Do I need to talk to UC about Pip when I speak to a Coach. I think they know about Pip. Disability can affect my ability to work as there can be days I cannot work, and there are times of the day I am unable to work. At the same time I do work.
Any advice on this would be helpful. I am concerned that if I leave it out completely, and go with transitional protection, that may affect my future Pip assessment which is for the disabilty. I read that DWP may be joining what is written on UC up with Pip applications/reapplications going forward.
Thank you for help with this
Jane

When you claim UC you will need to report your health condition, supported by a fit note. You will then be referred for a work capability assessment. More information here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/universal-credit-if-you-have-a-disability-or-health-condition-quick-guide/universal-credit-if-you-have-a-disability-or-health-condition#:~:text=When%20you%20make%20a%20claim,Work%20Capability%20Assessment%20(%20WCA%20).Claiming PIP doesn’t automatically entitle you to LCWRA.You will also need to make sure you tell them about your savings when you claim. Your capital is disregarded for 1 year, however if your capital drops below £16,000 and then goes back above it your UC will end.As you’re self employed you will need to attend a gateway appointment with a work coach and give them details about your self employed work. If found gainfully self employed you will have a 12 month start up period when the minimum income floor will not apply. You will be expected to report your earnings and expenses on the last day of each assessment period.0

Thank you PoppyI am not looking to apply for LCWRA. This is probably going to be my last year working before I retire so wanting to earn as much money as possible and have limitations of my disability re how many hours I work. Is it in my interest to disclose my disability to coach at UC; what if I do not disclose it? That is some of what I am unclear about.Thank you for helpJane0

There’s no harm in telling your work coach that you’re claiming PIP.Are you a single person or claiming with a partner? Are you responsible for dependent children?0
