My mum is in social housing. She is in receipt of housing benefit. She’s 80 and I live with her. I’ve bought my own property and mum is coming with me to live in it. I’m not in receipt of any benefits but she is for her disability and is on pension credits. My question is would she still receive housing benefit when we move?

She will not be entitled to housing benefit when she lives with you in your own property.

If you live in the same home, you cannot get housing related benefits to pay rent to your partner or a close family member.
Close family members are:
parents - including step parents
children - including stepchildren
brothers and sisters - including half siblings but not step siblings
partners of any of these close relatives

I just thought as I’m saving govt money by them no longer paying her rent I guess. I saw something online but it appeared to be Northern Ireland. Thanks so much Poppy.0

Heya @karmc and welcome to the community.
Sorry to hear your mum wont be able to claim housing benefit, it was the same for myself and my sister, despite being charged rent, I was unable to claim.0 -
Hi Albus - thank you! Yes seems strange that you’re saving govt money but I’m glad to know where we stand. Such a helpful group!1
