DBT? Has anyone with autism tried

I’ve come across DBT which is dialectical behaviour therapy, and was wondering if anyone who suffers with low mood and anxiety have tried?

I've had DBT for different reasons
I found it helped a tiny bit but not really
I had a good person doing it who I got on with, and it was useful to chat to him, but I didn't find the actual DBT really worked
Sorry to be negative but I want to be honest
It did give me some positive skills to use in life that everyone should know to be honest…but didn't help with what it was intended for

Hi
I did 1.5 years of DBT. When I started I didn’t have an autism diagnosis and when my 1:1 therapist found out I was autistic she said we couldn’t meet anymore (she was wholly unhelpful and very invalidating of the autistic experience - I believe she is one bad egg and more therapists will do there best to accommodate).I continued with skills group for the full 1.5 years and it was helpful. I learnt a ton of skills for so many situations. While some of them aren’t appropriate for me due to autism and some of them just don’t work for me - it’s all about trial and error.
I think DBT is a lifesaver for a lot of people including neurodiverse. My recommendation would be to think about the accommodations you’ll need to access therapy and ask for them!I’m looking to try art therapy or another 1:1 therapy as I need some 1:1 support to work things through. However I am significantly better since doing DBT skills group - I am in control of my negative thoughts and can manage them.
I hope things work out for you. Let me know if you have any questions.
FYI you can find all the handouts and modules for DBT online.
