Backdated Severe Disability Payment

Hello I’m hoping someone can help me please , my sister is down syndrome ( 47 years old) and my mum is her full time carer . I help in anyway I can and recently my mum and I have been going through my sisters benefits correspondence. I noticed a letter saying my sister had been wrongly assessed for ESA some years back and should is eligible for SDP. My mum at the time made some enquires however no one could say whether this ment the payments could be backdated . She hasn’t received any other letters or communication. Can anyone help to say whether she would be eligible ?
Thank you so much

To be entitled to SDP you must either live alone or be treated as living alone. You must also be either claiming a disability benefits such as PIP/ADP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care or be registered blind. No one must be claiming either carers allowance or carer element of Universal Credit for looking after you.
It's impossible to say without more information.

thank you for responding . The letter was dated back in December 2022 from the DWP saying that when they originally assessed her in 2016 they missed that she was entitled to SDP , so they are saying it’s their error ?

If entitled then it should be paid from when she became entitled to it. I can’t give any other advice without more information, sorry.
