existing PIP claim after retirement age

Morning all. My PIP claim is due for review in May 2025. I reach 66 in mid August this year. I've been told by a friend who has a sister who claims PIP that my PIP claim should be extended to a lifetime award.

Can anyone put me right on what may happen. My condition will not improve and is getting slowly worse.

    Those of state pension age and above whose conditions are not expected to change will receive a 10 year ongoing award with a light touch review.

    You will very likely have a normal review when the time comes and you'll need to wait for a decision to be made. A the moment review forms are being sent out about 8 months before your award is due to end.

    Hi, I applied for PIP shortly before retirement age and was awarded it after I'd been drawing my pension for 5 months. For what it's worth, I got a 10-year review. Like you, my condition won't improve, I'll still have a metal rod in my back and be unable to stand up straight - things that directly affect my ability to do things.

    I’ve just received a letter from PIP informing me that the next review of my claim will be in 2030 which will be 10 years from my first claim in 2020. I’m now retired on state pension since my 66th birthday.

    HI @krs1958. That's great that you've been awarded PIP until 2030, I bet that's a relief.

    Hi Rachel it is a relief. Just waiting for the Severe Disability Premium now. My local council have awarded me maximum council tax relief son I no longer pay any council tax for this year at least.

    It may be worth flagging up that those of us of pension age receiving PIP are fortunate in that if they do mess PIP around we can claim Attendance Allowance instead.

    Except AA doesn't have the mobility part so It's not something I would usually advise, especially if they were already claiming the mobility part of PIP. For this reason it's better to challenge the decision.
