Thirty years letitbe started as major chronic complex depression,in and out of hospital, lots of ECT along with lots of medication.l found good support from my consutants especially the professors but of course they are not all the same and you find that out when you have a long term illness. My illness has had many labels one was bipolar what l disagreed with because bipolar you have a high whereas l am constantly low. With a long term illness you can only rely on good support. One professor said to me that there is no cure but we will look after your quality of life.I liked that man.Always remember our illness is an interpretive science.

I rely on my medication for support when there is no physical support. One of the meds l have been on for thirty years is lithium and because of this l have developed a slow moving cancer called smouldering myeloma. My last hospital l was in nine months and l discharged myself.
