Income related ESA + Non-Dependent

Hi, apologies for posting when this might have been discussed before - I have been googling for hours for a direct answer / going through previous topics but I've found no direct answer to my question (I find it a bit confusing).

My parent is receiving ESA contribution but in support group (but not full) (as well as PIP); I am a live in carer (son) above 25 on carers allowance, with no other income. I cannot find information anywhere that directly answers if my income (carers allowance) would affect ESA income related.

Would anyone be able to help please? would be sincerely appreciated.

Your Carers allowance will not affect your parents ESA because for benefits purposes you are separate households. I'm not sure you what you by "your parent is receiving ESA contributions based Support Group (but not full)

As carers allowance is your only income have you looked at claiming Universal Credit? If you live with a partner you'll need to claim as a couple. If you have capital/savings of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming. Your carers allowance will be deducted in full. If you're a single person with no other income and no capital/savings then you should qualify for some UC. Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement.

Hello @edlex, welcome to our community 😊 The benefits system isn't the easiest to figure out is it? The documents on gov.uk are also very long and can contain quite technical language.

I hope Poppy has answered your questions, please do let us know if you have any other questions though!
