From 6th Form School to University Benefits

I am receiving Universal Credit for myself and my 17 year old daughter.
She will turn 18 on 16/08/2024.
She has been attending 6th form school. Last day attended was 18th June.

She will continue to live with me whilst attending a nearby University in September.
She will be in receipt of a student loan and a maintenance loan.
First loan payment is scheduled to be received on 16th September 2024.
Her course starts on 16th September 2024.

Yesterday, I was asked by Universal Credit (via my journal) to let them know
about my daughter's future plans, especially if she intends to continue with
her education. I am supposed to let them know the last date she attended school
(18th June).

I'm a bit confused by all this. Does this mean UC benefits I receive for her will stop from 18th June? Is/was she supposed to claim Universal Credit for herself from 18th June and attending university on 16th September? Or between turning 18 and getting her first payment from student loan?

    As she’s continuing with her education then your child element will continue until 31st August. However when your last payment will be will depend on the dates of your assessment periods or what date you usually receive your money each month.

    You will need to tell them that she’s starting Uni from X date. Your child benefit will end on 31st August and you will need to report the changes to HMRC as well.

    Spoke to UC on the phone, and I also received a message from my Journal

    I'm being told that the child element for my daughter will stop from 18th June (her last day of attendance at sixth-form), because she is no longer in full time education from that date.

    And since she is going to go to university on 16th September, she is not eligible for me to get child benefit for her because:

    Eligible education or training means they’re either:

    • enrolled on a course for more than 12 hours a week during term time, and studying for qualifications like GCSEs, A levels, BTEC, Scottish Highers, SVQ or NVQ up to level 3
    • accepted on approved training (check with the training provider if you’re not sure)

    Looks like i'll have to support her for 3 months, unless you think they are mistaken.

    Apologies for incorrect information given. This is where UC and Tax credits differ. For UC the child element ends at the start of the assessment period in which the course ended because they are no longer accepted as non advanced education.

    For Tax credits it would have ended on 31st August even if the course was advanced education.

    Having requested further clarification from UC (in writing from someone higher up), it seems you were right with your first reponse. It has something to do with my daughters: Last day at sixth-form; Last day of term; Still under 17 and not immediately being able to claim UC for herself. They cancelled my 'report a change' and said I should report a change with the date being 1st September. I'll also report this to Child Benefit department. I'm posting this incase it helps anyone else.
