Carers allowance overpayment

I started my job in December and informed universal credit immediately, I did not realize I had to inform DWP aswell. My jobs part time as I care for my elderly Mother so I receive universal credit which my carers allowance was deducted from. I have now been informed that I owe £2030 to DWP as I wasn't entitled to carers allowance from January. Will I have to pay this back even though it was actually deducted from my universal credit? If I have to pay it back would Universal credit not owe me what was deducted? I am worried sick they are going to take a huge chunk of my benefits. I've tried contacting Carers and Universal who tell me to ask in my journal but nobody is answering me

UC is the DWP.

That's what I thought but they are 2 different departments and they don't communicate

DWP is the department and UC is like their front counter. They do have all the figures. It's just claimants they don't communicate with unless you keep asking questions.
