I’m on ESA income based and contribution based. I’m in the support group , I called ESA hoping to get the severer disability premium as no one claims carers allowance for me. I was told as my 22 year son lives with me I could not claim this element as he is not in receipt of PIP.

If I moved over to UC would I be better off?? Can I still claim LCWRA , UC housing costs if my son lives with me but doesn’t pay rent?

Any advice please 🙏

    UC LCWRA pays more than ESA SG (when a person doesn't get SDP), so yes you should be better off.

    You can still get help with rent (Housing Element), there will be a non dependant deduction as your son lives with you.

    The CB esa will continue (automatically converting to New Style ESA) and be deducted in full fron your UC, the IR will stop but you will get a further 2 weeks payment of that and housing benefit.

    You are quite right I did overlook that.

    It does have to be Daily Living PIP though.
