Uc carers element

Hello,

I'm really confused, so recieved my first Uc statement this morning and all of my wife's carers allowance has been removed (which we knew) however there is no carers element on the statement. The Uc knows my wife is caring full time for my disabled son so how do I go about receiving the carers element

Thank you

    Uc carers element

I am waiting for my award I never realised the carers payment was actually stopping, just presumed income support and housing benefit

You still get carers allowance paid separately and then they take it all off your UC payment £1 for £1 as they count it as income. Your then supposed to receive carers element which my wife has not seemed to have received

The first UC statement isn't always correct. It can take a few weeks for them to get all the information they need. It would be worth putting a message on your journal to query it though.

People who already claim UC can make a change of circumstances online to add the Carers Element. But that shouldn't be necessary in your case if it was made clear during the application process.

Am starting to get confused, I claimed uc as income support was ending, so do they take off my carers allowance from that, then add it on again?

They are two different benefits. Carers Allowance gets deducted in full from Universal Credit.

But now you you can claim the Carers Element of UC instead.

When you were claiming Income Support the carers allowance was also deducted in full. They then included the carers premium. Carers allowance is the paid separately.

It’s no different to when you claim UC and carers allowance is deducted in full. You will then receive carers allowance separately as always. Carers element will be included in your UC.
