How reliable is the media ?
Hi just asking how reliable is the I news ?
Because of what I read Rachel reeves considering cutting disability benefits, got enough to worry about as it is with pip, uc migration and now this. Can someone check it out please

It's best to wait until next month, when Reeves is due to make a statement and the Budget be announced.
After both of those things are read in full (instead of the media cherry picking the most sensational bits from interviews, and reporting them possibly out of context) we will have a better idea of the direction Labour intend to go.

Easier said than done not to worry, when the assessments we go through as disabled people are awful as it is and the the things we have to go through to get whatvwen deserve, to then seemingly have the government blame disabled people for alot of the so called HOLE in the economy.....I for one worked for 20 years, but came down with illnesses beyond my control, and sincerely could not work anymore..... The stress and worry of all these what's ifs at the moment is making my illnesses worse 😕 and I'm beyond worried about what they may do to us next!!! 😔 😟

The problem with media speculation is that the reporters usually have no experience of disability. They have no idea how their reports will affect their readers.

Hi I think it's awful and unfortunately causing extreme anxiety and a worsening of manys symptoms. I am ashamed of the press many just using it as a way to make money and scare mongering. At the moment I am trying not to read any of it. I have worked for many years but has to give up last November and was dismissed due to my disabilities. I am 63 and have multiple issues and am having to battle with the GPS and NHS who pass the buck between each other.
We will just have to wait but my best wishes go out to you all during this time of great worry. We are all here for each other.

DAWNBIIWOO i completely agree with what you're saying , the worry & stress makes our illnesses ten times worse, I am absolutely terrified as to what this labour government have decided to do to disabled people to fill this so called black hole, how they can turn round and decide yet again to point the finger in our direction is a disgrace, we didn't put the black hole there and yet its once again disabled people who are going to pay the price, if labour can take away the pensioners winter fuel payments without a care in the world then I believe we should be worried! I too worked many years after leaving school until my health took a turn and I could no longer work, I get high rate care & mobility, I am on a 10 year rate until I have another assessment and I'm worried sick , next month won't come quick enough to finally find out what is going to happen to us all , frightening times!

I think that the media like to hype things up and disabled people are easy targets. I am really anxious about it. I have lots of chronic conditions mental, physical and neurological. I have me and fibromyalgia which are energy limiting and the thought of them trying to force me back into work is really plaguing me so the media reports just make everything worse. I worked all my life until 2 years ago when serious illness hit but I don't think that counts for anything. I would love to be able to work but it would just make me worse. The labels they give to people on benefits is appalling.

I hear they are going to look at the PIP assesment process from another angle! Targeting mental health issues. Had more than my fair share of ESA assesments in the past for physical problems but retired now. There must be more claims for PIP mental health than for physical prob"s. I only just learned that a mental health problem can get you top points for a mobility car! My PIP assessor wanted me to get down on the floor just to see if i could get back up, i refused as i knew i could not do it, so, standard points, but, not liking the way you look and wont go out "only, in you"r are mind you" gets you the top pionts. So, who in you"r minds is more worthy "going by what i just said" for the top points! mental health or Physical.

It's disgusting and really upsetting that mental health is being targeted this way. I'm in no way as bad a position as others but I'm on yet another Psychologist waiting list as they say I complex PTSD and the waiting list from Mind has been so far 8 months. What hope has anyone got especially if cognitively impaired. Let's hope they listen to Scope and the other Charities regarding Mental health issues as well as the Physical Disabilities.
I hope they are not as vile as people think. I have a family member who is a Labour supporter and very vocal about it but they have gone very quiet since the winter fuel payment and proposed tax rises!

Stephen needs a lot of support and I hope he gets it. It's hard enough for us dealing with everyday challenges. I've just found out that my GP withheld info that I could possibly have surgery. Many of us trying to balance physical and mental health issues can't cope with the added anxiety. That's why I try not to read anything at the moment but welcome the links sent that are accurate 😊

Hard to gauge.
It was reported that the last government were coming for PIP and I'd assume those in the legacy DLA to move away from cash to a voucher scheme, a catalogue type scheme or one off payments for items required to help with disability. Sounded ludicrous to me.
Change of government and not a thing heard about this proposal since.
I've grabbed the bull by the born and asked my MP to investigate in my behalf, hopefully get to the root of what's going on.

Thank you Night city for your kind words and you're great too. I think I'm going to take Steve's stance and contact my MP. I'll share the added costs of disability and try and get some idea of what they are proposing.
Not so sure he will be much use but I am willing to try.
We are all great and need to be strong but it would be great if we had someone in Labour who had support in our corner.

I don't my new MP would give a monkeys, He voted to take away the winter fuel payments. Making out he so nice pre election. I don't he do anything to help

They all seemed OK pre election but Reeves and Kendal are proving the devil incarnate. Poor pensioners battling with the loop holes.
Let's try to be positive and be as proactive as we can.

The post i put up earlier is very real. You cant go outside in the area you live in because you dont like the way you look. Go to a holiday spot 30 so miles away and you become free as the wind. Their secret they think. I wish i never knew of this persons problems, gut werenching to me but "hey," give them a mobility car to get ther. This is why i ask is MH overtaking physical problems on th PIP scale of things?
