Hi, my name is Thequickcat77! should l claim job seekers allowance?

can anyone advise l have just been advised that l will be made redundant, I currently get universal credit as l was on a low income
My question is should l claim job seekers allowance as it will only be taken off my uc payment, so l would be no financially better off.

I'm really sorry to hear about the redundancy, that's horrible news and I hope you're ok.
You'll need to let UC know that you've had a change of circumstances, but your UC will increase to reflect the lack of earnings in the following statement.1 -
I now today been given my letter confirming that l am redundant and my last working day as 15th November, l have to work my notice period of 5 weeks, when do l have to let Universal Credit know of change of circumstances as l am still employed until 15th November

You can't report a change before it happens so report it once employment has ended.
If you have the correct NI contributions in tax years 2021/22 and 2022/23 you can claim New style JSA if you'll be looking for work. It's payable for 6 months.
You are correct that it's deducted in full from UC so no financial gain. Although you would receive class 1 NI credits from this but only class 3 from UC.
