in Universal Credit (UC)

Hi All.

l'm asking this for a friend, but it will also be relevant to myself, I'm sure in the not so distant future.🙄

I've heard on the day you put your claim in for UC (migration from income related esa support group) that you must inform your housing department and esa themselves that you've done so on that same day. That also you need your tenancy agreement, which I've no clue about as I'm In this house 33 years and don't even rem getting one,she's in her house 24 years. Both housing executive as we are in N.I.

I know there's other things needed to and we have a list.

Can someone confirm what I've asked please if possible and thanks in advance. 🐕

    You don't need to inform ESA once you claim UC. That will all be done by DWP staff behind the scenes as part of the claim.

    It's a good idea to let your landlord know you've claimed UC.

    The procedure in England is, UC ask the social housing provider for confirmation of your rent amount. No tenancy agreement needed.

    @kimmy87 Wow.! That was a trained benefit disability welfare person who told us what we needed to do. How could they have misinformed us so badly. I did wonder re phoning esa to inform them as I'd never heard that before. And this was a welfare person in England who told us,well,told me actually. Thank you so much I'll tell my friend Caroline tomorrow. Grateful thanks.

    For others that are reading this, when renting from social/council housing, UC will automatically contact your landlord to confirm your liability to pay rent, regardless of where you live. The rules for UC apply nationally, not just for England.
