Will a DLA claim affect carers element?

hi,

My husband and I are considering applying for DLA for our eldest son who is on the ADHD assessment waitlist ( 3 year wait at the minute).
I am in receipt of PIP for a disability and Iā€™m in LCW group. My husband claims carers element for me.

If I apply for dla for my son with my name in the form, will it affect the carers element my husband receives for me? Will UC assume that because I can care for a child (more mental care to be honest), I do not need someone to care for me?

    Hey @Tutu22, welcome to the community šŸ˜Š Hopefully we can help clear up the uncertainty here.

    There would only be a potential issue if the care you provide contradicted the reasons you review LCW. Do you think that would be a possible issue at all? You mention it is mostly mental support/care you provide.

    No, you claiming DLA for your child will not affect your husband's carer element, or your LCW, even if your name is on the claim form.
