Hi, my name is edmundo!
I’m 41 years old and I have mild cerebral palsy.
Up to the age of 11 I could walk and run unaided, at this point I developed generalised Dystonia and although I was still able to walk shorter distances unaided I started using a wheelchair for longer distances. I attended university, live independently and work full hours as a Software Engineer.
During the COVID years I was unable swim (my main form of exercise). Although going back to it subsequently my walking has rapidly deteriorated to the point where now I am only walking with sticks or furniture cruising. A physio noticed about 18 months ago that my right leg was shorter than my leg (currently the leg length discrepancy is significant).
Following an X-Ray which showed a “chronic dislocation of right hip” I had an initial consultation with a surgeon who said that a total hip replacement for the right hip was an option and explained that both my hips were
Has anyone here had a THR operation who might be prepared to share their experiences and discuss hospitals and surgeons? Also, the pre/post op exercises and rehab are very involved & intensive so any advice I can get about those would be gratefully received.

Hey @edmundo, welcome to the community 😊 I hope we can help and maybe reassure you about this. I haven't had personal experience but my (to be) mother in law has had hip replacement surgery. It was difficult at first of course, recovery takes time. The exercises are a lot but they're important, because you need to strengthen the muscles and the joint after the lack of use and operation.
Before the surgery she could barely walk the 10 steps to her car. Now she power walks around her local area daily and hasn't had issues in years. It really made her life a lot better.
