The flu vaccination protects against a few of the most common strains predicted to be in circulation.

It doesn't protect against any and all flu unfortunately.

I'm jabbed every year but usually get flu once a decade.

Kimmy hits the nail on the head.

We need flu jabs repeatedly because the different strains of it come and go like tides. There's no guarantee with them.

There are specific tests your doctor could sort out to check if flu is what you have. I expect that'll help guide any treatment.

We can also buy tests but I've no idea how reliable that would be.

In your situation I'd ask my GP.

    Good luck

There's a lot of nasty bugs doing the rounds at the moment @Jane315STARX that although not influenza, are pretty nasty if you get them, my sister is currently curled up in bed with one of them. I hope you feel better soon, plenty of rest and liquids for you!

Any vaccination isn't actually 100% effective, it just reduces the chances of catching the particular strains included in the vaccine (anything from 2-4 strains), the H3N2 variants are harder to protect against. Flu vaccine efficacy can be anything from 30ish% in a bad year to 70% in a good year.

Though as albus said there are a lot of other viruses in circulation at the moment.

If only we knew of a way to stop the spread of viruses, something simple and cheap that people could put on their faces to contain the aerosols in our breath, something that people would wear to protect others and those who refused without genuine cause could be sanctioned for…..some form of mask maybe? /s

Hi, just to say that my dad got really ill after his flu jab and I was the same. We stopped having the jab and never got flu again. I never got Covid either, despite being exposed to it several times. Sometimes you can have a natural immunity and having a jab just mixes up the natural resistance you have. I would still advise everyone to get the flu jab though. I had all the Covid jabs as well without any adverse effects. Life is peculiar sometimes. Best wishes and a speedy recovery.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree tgat someone should be sanctioned for not wearing what you don’t even describe. There was enough scaremongering during Covid if you remember

I had the flu jab once , once was enough! I got the flu the week after the jab and spent 3 weeks in bed it was worse than covid. This was about 25 years ago and I've not had a flu jab since despite the doctors sending me invites every year.

I've not had the flu since but have had covid 3 times and I've had jabs for that too.

    Hope you feel better soon
