Hi. I am disabled and claim Cont based ESA only. My mother is disabled and i am speaking to a benefits advisor who says i can claim carers as i help look after my mother without if effecting my own ESA claim. Is that correct as i have never heard of being able to do that before? Thanks

That's not exactly correct. Both benefits are treated as overlapping benefits, which means you can't be paid both at the same time. In this case you'll only be paid the higher one, which for you is CB ESA. You would have what's known as an underlying entitlement to it but this will only benefit you, if there's entitlement to Income Related top up in your old contributions based ESA.

Have you ever been assessed for the Income Related top up?

Thanks poppy. That is exactly what do said. It would only really kick in if i claimed income related ESA alongside my CB. Thanks again

That's correct because your ESA would then include the carers premium.
