Council tax confusion after Uc Migration

Hi!
I was wondering is UC classed as an income?
When I was on ESA due to disability I was entitled to 75% discount on council tax, now I have migrated to UC I receive no extra payments I am on LWCRA & have 1 child, my council tax bill has come through and it has tripled in monthly payments the council have said it’s because they allocate the discount now by how much I receive and this only entitled me to a 35% discount…..
Is this correct?
thank you

They very often base entitlement on your UC award for CTR. As all local Authorities have their own rules then this isn't something we would be able to advise on.

Do you think this is why doing benefit checks ? Collecting information I had one done said no changes but did receive letter shortly after saying they will be asking for council tax moving forward

When claiming any means tested benefits they can review your claim at anytime.

Yes it depends per council, ironically I think I am going to get extra council tax support next year, this will mitigate about 1/2 of the TP I will lose in April.
The reason is during the consultation my council did, even though they are reducing the council tax support budget, they have decided to give LCW and LCWRA (both ESA and UC) 100% support instead of the previous 80%. It hasnt been approved yet, but it very likely will be.

I migrated to UC from CB (+ IR top up) in October and my CT reduction was recalculated and went up also. What I think causes it is the legacy benefits continue for two weeks beyond the migration process starting, thus overlap into the UC reporting period essentially you get two extra weeks old benefits just that first month so your council thinks your income has increased and lower the reduction % you are entitled to accordingly. I suspect eventually the council get notified of the lower normal amount and correct the CT account (excluding that first month)

That isn't the reason why CTR reduces when you claim UC. More often than not a local Authority calculates CTR based on your UC award. As all of them have their own rules for this, it's difficult to advise.

The two week run on of legacy benefits has no effect on your first UC payment.
For UC purposes that payment is disregarded.
So it will have no bearing on CTR entitlement.
