Advice about contacting the DWP

Hello all.

I will need to contact the DWP shortly after Christmas regarding my forthcoming inheritance. Only thing is - i'm terrified of telephone conversations. I believe it's possible to contact and inform them via mail, making sure the letter I send is signed for and tracked. But what format does this letter have to be? does anyone have any advice about doing this?

What benefits are you receiving and how much do you expect to receive? Not all benefits are means tested so you may not need to inform some DWP departments?

In a previous thread just over a year ago you said you were claiming Income Related ESA. Ideally, you should ring them because they don't often acknowledge letters. If the inheritance takes your capital to more than £6,000 your ESA will reduce by £1/week for every £250 or part thereof over that amount.

Capital of more than £16,000 then all means tested benefits will end.

Do you have someone that can ring on your behalf?
