Hello everyone

I have previously posted about UC and selling on Vinted . As mentioned, before me and husband started Vinted to sell our jewellery etc . I really enjoyed doing this . My husband work hours are going to be reduced heavily again in January, and we are wondering if perhaps he could register as Self-employed to sell on Vinted but this time we would be buying to re-sell as we have sold most of our own items. Just wondering if anyone on here who claims UC is doing this already and is it working out ok ? Perhaps Etsy is better . Only using Vinted at the minute .Any advice greatly appreciated .

Thank you 😊

Self-employed taxpayers should notify HMRC as soon as practicable when they begin working for themselves. Though to be seen as gainfully self employed in the eyes of UC will involve you being able to prove you're making a regular income from the business.

The resale market is quite popular and pretty competitive these days, but best of luck with your venture. 😊

    Thank you so much @Albus_Scope

I am going to contact HMRC as I am really worried about my situation. We have sold our family jewellery on Vinted and my earning on Vinted since February show nearly 10 k . (13 k jointly) These were our personal items ..but …how do I prove this to HMRC .. I know nothing about taxes and self-assessment . If Vinted passes this info onto HMRC and they contact me to question this ..it seems like a substantial amount . items sold for less that than originally bought .. most of them were given to me and some bought over the years. I will maybe just call them and ask them for advice .

When you were selling personal items you don’t need to contact HMRC.

If you want to start as self employed then you will need to report a change to UC and then click work and earnings. Through there you would need to report being self employed.

You will need to attend a gateway appointment with a work coach to talk about your self employed work.

Whether you can be found to be gainfully self employed will depend on your circumstances. If you’re either claiming carers element for yourself or have been through the work capability assessment and been found to have either LCW or LCWRA you can’t be found to be gainfully self employed.

You would be expected to report your earnings and expenses on the last day of each assessment period.
