How Many PIP Review Forms Are There In Existence Today? Too Much Confusion!

There are stories doing the rounds that PIP review form AR2 has been ditched by DWP, and that all up for PIP review will now receive a 25 page AR1 review form to complete.

This despite many having received an ongoing award and might now be past pension age. Like me!

I understood that in my case, I would be subject to a light touch review. Not that I would just fill in the form and leave it at that. I would enclose fresh evidence etc, even with a light touch form.

Now I am just confused as to what’s going on. Is light touch process still around?

Thank you

Welcome to Scope. This is the latest information I found on the Benefits and Work website. I have found them to be a trusted source of information on PIP.

MW123. I’ve seen the B&W latest newsletter. TBH I’m not sure it’s that clear. They mention how the DWP has introduced this new long PIP review form. They dont mention anything about light touch forms. (AR2)

Yes it still exists. Those that have an ongoing award with a light touch review will receive a AR2 form. Sample below. There’s been no feedback on these so it’s not known how you should fill out that form. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6602b15965ca2fa78e7da86b/ar2-award-review-how-your-disability-affects-you.pdf

For everyone else it’s the AR1 form or the 1043 form as it’s recently been changed again for normal reviews.

Poppy, I might have got this wrong (which, knowing me, is quite likely). My understanding is that the light touch review AR2 form is typically used for specific groups of claimants, such as those who have reached pension age or those renewing a 10-year PIP award.

You are quite correct with your thoughts. Sorry for the delay, been busy with my grandchildren today.

I have heard people say that the AR2 form is simple to fill in - you should just say - no changes to conditions or needs.

In my opinion that is rather dangerous especially if no evidence is to be sent in etc..

I do feel that the AR2 should be treated as you would a AR1 form

Absolutely. “No change”, with no elaboration is inviting a call up for interview. You see, if you are reviewed after the proposed changes kick in, having a couple of score 4 descriptors means nothing. Why? Because DWP will be under a ruthless imperative not to confirm past scores, just to cut back on who is getting PIP.

But with a properly evidenced new form completed, plus doctors letters, this will make it harder for assessors and DWP to say your condition has “improved”. Which is what it would amount to if scores of 4 were reduced so that having previously got PIP, you no longer will.

Leaving the changes aside, your final paragraph neatly sums it up, also.

    Such is my thinking!
