Housing benefit / migration

If say you submit on the 6th Feb and you next housing benefit payment is the 17th would the 2 week run on let that payment go or would housing benefit stop on the 6th and literally pay 2 weeks of rent and stop ?

Housing benefit is paid two weeks in arrears.
So there will be one more payment due on or around the 17th.

I just got off the phone to citizens advice and they are conflicted even a supervisor he asked.
They said if you claim on the 7th of feb housing benefit stops and will only pay 2 weeks rent.
However they coversated back and forth and thought the 17th falls within the 2 week window why would that payment stop.
In the end they said call UC and ask which I did and they were unsure but said its likely your HB claims stops on the date of claim with an additional 2 weeks of rent covered.
My last HB date was the 20th Jan so i could end up owing 3 weeks from the 20th jan to my claim date then another 3 weeks whilst I have no HB.
Or wait till 17th and claim after then but then my UC account will be well past the 28 days and I would have to start again.
No one seems to be 100% sure on this one.

so you said the if I claim on the 7th feb UC, the previous 2 weeks are covered and from the claim date is when the housing element will be valid from ?

My housing benefit is paid every 4 weeks

so if paid 2 weeks in the past means the payment for the 17th (for 4 weeks rent) will not be covered ?

You will be paid up until you submitted your claim for UC. After that date you will receive 1 more payment of housing benefit and then it will stop.
Ringing those places for advice when you’ve already had lots of advice on here isn’t helping you because they are confusing you. Please don’t ring the UC helpline either because they are not benefits advisors.

So to confirm if I claim on the 7th feb is it a two week run on for housing benefit till the claim stops or for 2 weeks rent only ?
My next HB due date for the 4 weeks since 20th jan - 17th feb is due on the 17th feb
Its all very confusing to be honest especially with learning disabilities. Everyone says something different. Noted about the UC claim number i'll avoid that in future.
I though CAB were clued up on all of this.
All i'm trying to do is make sure I get this right before I end up owing money that I don't have.
Always been very grateful of the help I've gotten here from you and others.
Apologies if I have over stayed or over asked my welcome.

Citizens Advice is not somewhere I would recommend for advice either because I've known them give misleading advice many times.
Once you submit a claim for UC your housing benefit and Income Related ESA will continue for 2 weeks and then both of them will stop.

So if my ESA is due on the 6th would that be a good day to submit or would that mean from midnight 2 weeks on its closed. My payments arrive at 12.20am.
Just wondering if the 7th would be a better day to submit if the above is an issue.
If anyone knows.

It doesn't really matter because with your payment being due on 6th if you claim the day before then payment would have already been sent anyway. You will receive that payment plus one final payment after that.
