Can anyone help? Care costs

Can anyone help? I live in Canada and have POA for my sister in Glasgow who his 82 with Alzheimers, lives alone. I pay £400 weekly for care for my sister, 4 hours a day for five days a week. The govt. sends someone to check on her at night, 5 mins, not much use. In Canada, when we pay for care we can deduct part of the expenses from our taxes payable. Refundable tax credits. I can't find this anywhere in the UK tax system. Is it not there, or am I missing seeing it? £28,000 a year seems quite a bit of money out our her pension.

    Hi there,

    I am just looking for information. My sister is 81, has Alzheimer's. I am her POA. I use her income to pay for carers. Is there any way I can claim part of this expense against her taxes taken off at source?

    I live in Canada and that is what we do here. I don't know if it is the same in UK.

    Hey there @enelson and a belated welcome to the community.

    I'm afraid I'm not sure if that's possible, the UK benefits system is a bit of a labyrinth, so your best bet would be to contact the DWP or HMRC.
