Upcoming cuts to benefits

I'm a 52 Yr old disabled woman, who also has significant health problems.A great number stem from my childhood cancer and damage my treatment caused. I've been on benefit half my life, I have severe muscoskeletal pain, scoliosis and kyphoscolisos, sacroiliac joint disorder in my right hip, am partially doubly incontinent as a result of gut and bowel issues, can't absorb vitamins amd have severe deficiencies, and in 2022 severe covid led to a heart attack which left me with dizziness, weakness and long term issues.I have also been diagnosed with paroxysmal anxiety as result of shock and trauma.

I am genuinely terrified of what is to come if I lose my benefits, I cannot function on a daily basis anything like a 'normal healthy ' person, from daily severe pain,to collapsing with too much exertion, to constant accidents if I can't get to a loo, to extreme panic attacks. I know there are so many of us out there who feel the same, but I'm struggling to sleep and eat even more than usual because of it....How are people coping?.And thanks for reading.

Thank you for your replies...It's so hard stories popping uo in your phone all the time…And currently awaiting my PIP review decisions(from August, and runs out this time next month), so obviously always more on edge even more at these times.

Usually from the least helpful of sources at that. If I have any concerns about social security, the Daily Mail will be the last place I'll look, quite frankly.

I do understand this approach, and know exactly where you coming from.
Personally I think a period of 4-5 years will go by quickly, not a very long time. I also think we will see some changes before then, I do expect existing PIP awards to be honoured and any transition to happen during "review".
But I understand locking yourself away from it all, and I will do so myself at some point, I wont be doing this every day for sure, of course its hard when its the main topic, because even loading the BBC news app will likely show a story.

This is really the problem, someone on here I feel made a very good point that a very big reason that the ill and disabled part of the population is constantly hit with reforms, is there is no fight, that is a huge part of it.

The redacted part of the WCA consultation shows that they wanted to add questions that would give the appearance cuts were not the main motive, and also mentioned that they mostly just needed to focus to get charities onside, as the fight from claimants themselves on the whole is non existent. We do see some charities fighting, but sadly Scope is not one of them, instead is posts that they are happy for ministers to be visiting them. It all feels too friendly. However what we really need is a large part of the community to band together and make theme selves heard, like black lives matter and so on, but it just wont happen. :( Of course for some very valid reasons, people wont want to lead themselves to worsening health because they involved in a fight with the government.

The way its going though, I probably will have to turn my phone off, cut my internet and hide away for some years, then check what actually happened afterwards.

They can't fast track the legal process.

They were able to change the Winter fuel payment criteria so quickly because it was a government perk, not protected by legislation.

Ignore hyped up, factually incorrect media stories about crack downs, fast track changes etc.

This month Labour will release a Green paper.

Green Paper: These are our plans, what do you think.

    Consultation and feedback.

Then they release a White Paper.

White Paper: These are our proposals

Then the long legal process, going through both houses of parliament, delayed by any court challenges, amendments proposed by the House of Lords.

    Then they finally become law.

The whole process takes years, and what eventually becomes law is usually a watered down version of the Green paper.

Is the green paper the one that has what's going to happen or is it the spring budget on the 26th ?. Also pip changes that questionnaire that I filled out online will that be part of the cuts or changes. Also will they take away the money that we receive completely that we have no money coming in to live on

The Green Paper will be announced this month, probably alongside the budget.

The PIP changes questionnaire was not Government policy, but an idea a third party group (who have lived experience of the system) put forward.

No one yet knows what form the proposed changes will take.

I have never felt so ill. My physical condition is progressive. I've lived with it since in was a child. The best I can hope for is that it won't get too much worse. I'm too disabled and tired to do DWP paperwork again. I just want to give up.

Im terrified & all the govt rhetoric on disability benefits, aling with right wing media coverage, isn't helping. My MH is deteriorating rapidly as a result of this punitive benefit talk.

I don't know what I'll do if they stop my PIP & ESA. I'm 62 & disability benefits & have no support. I'm existing but disability benefits give me some quality of life & independence. I already have to justify why I'm still alive when I'm assessed & they want to make assessments & criteria even tougher in order tomake drastic cuts to disability & sickness benefits & spend a lot on weapons.

Don't know what I'll do if disability benefits are made even tougher & designed to cut numbers of people claiming. It's callous & unjust, but no one is doing anything to defend disabled people. We don't matter & media reinforces this, making us all out to be a drain on society.

Not sure I'll be able to survive any changes. I'm already struggling to sleep & losing weight because of the scare stories out there. Waiting for urgent referral to CMHT but they don't do much due to 'restructuring', which is another word for They're also overwhelmed.

Govt changes to disability & longterm illness will lead to poverty, hardship & suicides. But the govt couldn't care less. Some people in here blame those on MH but this is what the give want. They want to push this marstuve & di ice people. Don't fall for their ideological BS. I don't want to be here when this happens.

I haven't seen anyone on this forum 'blame mental health'.

They have only said what Liebour are saying about it in their planned welfare reforms.

    Hello all,

It's definitely on many of our minds right now. We're having a big discussion about it, which you can read here: Upcoming changes to benefits.

At the moment, no formal announcements have been made, so no one knows for certain what the changes will be or how they’ll be implemented. However, we're actively campaigning and raising awareness through The Cost of Cuts, and we’d really appreciate your support and signature.

We understand this is a difficult topic, and many people are finding it challenging. To keep the community a safe space, we're encouraging all discussions on benefit changes to stay in one place. For that reason, we’ll be closing this discussion, but we’d love for you to join the main discussion thread here: Upcoming changes to benefits.
