Hi all. Looking for some advice/reassurance please. I already receive PIP at the lower rate for daily living and mobility. I have put in for a change in circumstances. Did this Sept 2024. On 6th Feb 2025 had an unplanned call from PIP assessor asking for clarification on some points, ie can l hold a cup, how far can l walk etc. I was very nervous but think l answered clearly. However, contacted PIP today 11th Feb 2025 and they have no knowledge of this call. My anxiety is now through the roof and l have no idea if l will be awarded anything or how long before l know. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi @Doolally62, welcome to the community. I can understand why you might be feeling stressed out by this, that sounds a bit strange.

Sometimes it's just that the person on the PIP enquiry line doesn't have the information or has given you incorrect advice. That does happen sometimes, so it could be worth giving them another call and seeing whether a new person might have a better idea of what's going on with your case. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

Have you received any other messages or just the phone call?

    Hi Rosie

Thank you. No l havent received any other communication apart from the usual text advising they have received my claim. I have called previously asking for updates and was advised l my claim had been referred to the assessors but could not be given any timescales for assessment as there is a backlog. Then l got the unplanned call. The DWP lady said there was nothing on my record regarding the call but advised me not to worry as she googled the number l gave her ghat they had called me from and it stated it was from PIP assessors. She said she would update my file and get someone to chase it up.

If it was definitely a PIP assessor that rang you then PIP wouldn't have any idea they did that as there wouldn't be any information on their system. Once your file is sent to the assessment provider it's out of DWP's hands.

If there's enough of information to write the report without the need for an actual assessment then they will do that, otherwise an assessment will be needed.

If you know who's doing your assessment you can ring them to ask for an update. If you don't know then this link will help. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/find-your-health-assessment-provider

    Thanks Poppy123456

I just called the Assessors who could not give me any information apart from it was them that called me. No update on whether l need a full assessment, what happens next or any timescales other than "as soon as possible" its all so very frustrating

I'm afraid I can't give any timescales at this stage because there isn't any. If an assessment is needed you will be contacted. Timescales will apply once the assessment report is returned, which is up to 12 weeks.

Waiting times for reviews, even change of circumstances are extremely long for most people. Some are waiting as long as 1 year for a decision. New claims are much quicker.

I have received a text advising l have a telephone assessment on the 28th Feb. Completely stressed now as what was the phone call for last week then? What are they looking for? I have provided all evidence regarding my conditions.

Last week would have been them attempting what's known as a paper based assessment.

They have now decided they couldn't make a decision from that, so are giving you a full assessment.

Thank you. I dont know what else to tell them to help with the decision.

Usually an assessment is needed when they don’t have enough of information. Even though you sent evidence, was that relevant to how your conditions affect you against the PIP descriptors.

Hi yes it was very involved and gave really good examples against each descriptor. My son in law helped me complete it and has a wealth of knowledge with this. Each example was followed up with evidence in the form of hospital letters, GP appointments, meds etc

Just a quick update. Had my full telephone assessment today and it was delayed by the HA for 2 hours. It started at 11am and finished at 14.15... 3 and a quarter hours. Was very involved with lots of questions about why l cant do things for myself and how long do things take. Have to wait 6 to 8 weeks now 🤞
