LHA UC PIP

Hey everyone,
I’ve been receiving LCWRA for a while, but because I live in a shared house, UC only covered part of my rent. However, after I was awarded PIP, I noticed in my latest statement that UC has now automatically increased my housing payment to cover my full rent.
What’s interesting is that this increase happened before I even answered their question about whether I need an extra bedroom.
Does anyone know why this might have happened? Could it be related to my PIP award, or is it just a general reassessment? Also, does answering the extra bedroom question affect anything?
Would really appreciate any insights. Thanks

Are you under 35?
If so those under 35 qualify for the shared room rate when renting privately.
If under 35 and claiming PIP, you are eligible for the one bedroom rate.
The extra bedroom question is them asking if you need a second bedroom to receive frequent overnight care. There actually has to be a spare bedroom though and you can't receive more than your actual rent amount.
From what you've written I don't think this is applicable to you.

Yes, I’m under 35, and ever since I was awarded PIP, my full rent has been covered by UC. Before that, because I live in a shared house, they only covered part of my rent.
I just wanted to make sure this increase was correct and not a mistake. Based on what you said, it seems like it’s because I now qualify for the one-bedroom rate.
Thanks again for the clarification!
