HELLO,

I got a letter today, 'GET YOUR STATE PENSION'

I am 65 and turn 66 this year, claim ESA contributions based, and receive the high rate PIP, my partner is 6 months younger than me, she works at the local hospital as an ancillary nurse full-time, so I should be getting my pension when I turn 66 in June? Then my partner would get her retirement in December, would anyone have any info on what we should do, should I defer til December when we are both 66? Or go for it now, we don't know how it will affect my benefits, I searched everywhere for answers and can't find anything, we were both born in 1959, and I have just had my PIP reviewed and awarded again, we pay full rent and council tax, but just wondered what happens after I fill in the pension form, what will happen with my PIP and contribution-based ESA, it's a minefield out there, would be grateful for any feedback

thanks for reading

CB ESA will end once you reach pension age, as it's only for those of working age.

PIP will continue to be paid as long as you remain entitled. After state pension age it's not possible for Mobility component to be newly awarded or increased from Standard to Enhanced.

Daily Living can be upgraded from Standard to Enhanced if needed.

Thanks for your reply, I was awarded the enhanced Pip for an ongoing period as my condition won't get any better in the near future, so I will lose the ESA? Do I need to do anything after I lose that benefit, as I was in the support group? Or do I have to claim something else, as it seems a lot to lose just because I got old, It is just all so confusing, and then we go through it all again when my partner retires, might need to start doing the lottery ha ha ha

The state pension is the replacement for your ESA.

When your partner also reaches pension age you can try and see if you are jointly entitled to Pension Credit.

As you get PIP there is a greater chance an application would be successful.
