Civil Partnership & Universal Credit – Reporting Change?

Hello everyone,

My partner and I are entering into a civil partnership on 24 February 2025 in the Netherlands. We currently live in different countries—I live in the UK, while my partner lives in the Netherlands.

We are both deaf and receive benefits due to unemployment. Since we won’t be living in the same household after our civil partnership, should I still report this as a change of circumstances to Universal Credit?

Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice?

    Hi @fifa_world_class7, this shouldn't affect your benefits at all as you aren't living in the same household. If you do decide to move in with each other at some point, that would definitely be something you'd have to report. But you shouldn't need to report that you've entered a civil partnership if you're still living apart 😊
