What You Can Do, To Beat Loneliness This Christmas
This time of year can be tough for a lot of people. At Scope, we’ve been putting together a list of charities and organisations who will be hosting get togethers over the Christmas period.
Crisis
Crisis are a national charity for people experiencing homelessness.
This year, Crisis centres at Bermondsey (South London), Camden (North London), Hackney (East London), and Notting Hill (West London) will be open from Saturday 24th December to Wednesday 28th December 2022, from 11am to 5pm.
At these centres, there will be hot meals and snacks, toiletries, films, TV, games, quizzes, and even karaoke! They will be providing lots of information and can even help with supporting you in getting online.
Reengage
Reengage provides vital and life enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives where their social circles are diminishing.
No matter your age, Reengage are welcoming people between 17 December 2022 and 12 January 2023 for fun and friendly chats. You can find your nearest location using the postcode search. Listings are regularly updated, so check back if you can’t see anything in your area just yet.
Warm Welcome
Warm Welcome’s mission is to support organisations to open their doors to those struggling to heat their homes this winter. These locations include churches, community centres, theatres, and cafés. They will all have varied opening hours over the Christmas period.
Join In
Sometimes, you do not want to go out, or can’t go out. Sometimes, you may be surrounded by lots of people, but still feel alone. The hashtag Join In (#JoinIn) was started on Twitter by comedian Sarah Millican. On Christmas Day, if you feel you need some company, there are many people who will be eager to discuss their interests, hobbies or as my grandmother would say “sit and put the world to rights”. Simply log in to Twitter and join in using the hashtag #JoinIn.
Online Community
And of course, the Online Community will be open, log in and join us in Coffee Lounge for games, chats and a lot of fun!
Do you know of any charity or organisation who will be opening their doors this Christmas? Please comment below and hopefully, we can help someone.

Local community centres seem to be open this Christmas too @Hannah_Scope. However, people would need to check with their individual community centres to make sure this applies to their local area1
