With the advent of Covid, the waiting list for everything is longer, patience is needed.I went through the needs assessment last year, where some safety things were arranged, also a falls assessment & I was given some aids to help with all sorts of things. That assessor then put in for the Adaptations Team OT to visit. I was very lucky & that visit happened relatively quickly. We had a good chat & it was mainly my bathroom that I needed help with. The OT went through everything though, she added the kitchen for adaptations, the main door access having an automatic opener & also a different, better ramp. Must admit, I was pretty gobsmacked & kock-a-hoop. But now, the wait..... as of yesterday, a year so far.As I said, patience is needed. Eventually though, it will all make a huge difference to my life, for which I'm thankful. So, hang in there, @Wibbles & relax.0

Camellia said:That sounds very positive, very glad you have an OT due to come out to your home. Have you received the report yet?
She claims not to have written a report..... Or even carried out an assessment
"I did not complete a care act assessment of you.
During my visit I was able to assess that your needs was an occupational therapist needs and I contacted them while in your house.
The occupational therapist would carry out their own assessment and work with you to have a desired outcome.
All other needs were provided by your wife and you are able to afford all your needs based on having over the threshold has confirmed by you and your wife."
I don't understand why

Wibbles said:I have just been refused a care needs assesment AGAIN
On grounds that I have too much savings
I keep on telling them that I am ENTITLED to an assessment but they don't think so...
What I do not understand is where the duty of care has gone.
The Idea of a needs assessment is exactly that, and to look at your needs now and how they will be affected in the future, with adaptions or further physio or other needs.
There is no Duty of Care anywhere, that allows a report to be written about you and used without you seeing that report even though it is sanctioned by a Disability Analyst or information gather and used any way.
Why do we need to keep proving we are ILL or sick to get the benefits we are entitled to?0 -

Despite requesting such an assessment since last August
So what was it?1 -
Wibbles you are entitled to a proper wholistic needs assessment irregardless of your income / savings status. Whether or not the council will pay for any of what you need is another matter.
I gave you the details for the disability Law Service etc who should be able to advise as to your next steps if you would like to fight for your right to be properly assessed. It will likely not be an easy journey.
You may be eligible for a personal health budget - which doesn’t take into account your financial status.I am exploring this for myself at the moment.1 -
The woman who came wrote copious notes at the time
Surely I am entitled to know what she wrote?
SAR coming I feel1 -
It is up to you what you do but I suspect getting off side with professionals will not be in your interests - especially when you may need those same individuals to support you with things such as evidence for benefits applications etc. There appears to have been some misunderstanding. I suggest you get legal advice through a not for profit disability law organisation as to your next steps to ensure you get the assessment you are entitled to.I also mentioned personal health budgets as a possibility for you to look into. They are also not easy to get but at least finances are not to my knowledge taken into account which could be helpful in your situation. It is emotionally and mentally draining having to fight for your rights and is a major time suck but sadly it is sometimes a case of fighting for your rights or putting up with your current situation.I cannot emphasise enough in my opinion I think you would benefit from both advocacy support and legal advice but there may be even a rigmarole for that. The advocacy support - I would suggest you get statutory care act advocacy - is not means tested.0

On another subject
I wish that they would rename "carers assessments"
My wife - Who has cared for me for 20 years doesn't want a carers assessment because she will feel she is being 'judged'!! Or assessed herself
What they need to do is think of a new name......0 -
Had the OT assessment
I am getting a new 'profiling' bed on Tuesday and an electric wheelchair in a few weeks.....
Excellent!!3 -

Camellia says: they are not looking at her ability to care; they will instead be looking at what her needs are as a carer so she can continue to be a carer without it unduly affecting her physical and/or mental wellbeing.I am very glad you are getting the new bed and wheelchair and it doesn’t look like you will be charged.0 -
All assessments completed by PIP's and DWP are Care needs assessments. Why have an assessment otherwise?0

Why have an assessment otherwise? This thread isn’t about assessments for benefits.A carers assessment is completely different! a CARE NEEDS assessment is absolutely nothing to do with benefits - it is (supposed to be) a holistic assessment to see whether anything needs doing to improve the life of a disabled person !!

Maybe you should explain that to the people that assess carers needs, and not the person they are caring for, as in this case.0
