ESA50 - not received by Advisory Service

I posted my completed ESA50 on 19th December. The Health Advisory Service have still not received the form - it had to be back by 5th January. If not received tomorrow I am told my case will be closed and I will have to contact the ESA team at DWP. What does this mean - will my assessment period payments stop? Will I be given a chance to resubmit the form? I am still sending Fit Notes as required.
All I have is proof of postage - I did not send it by recorded delivery as I thought it would not be necessary.

It doesn't surprise me that it hasn't been received because of all the Royal Mail strikes before Christmas. DWP should be well aware of the issues it caused with post not being delivered. If your file is returned to DWP all you can do is explain that you did return it.As you have proof of postage that's all you need. You didn't need to pay for next day delivery.2

I’ve only received a letter today which was posted first class on 16th December so it’s probably still in the post. If they do close it you can do a Mandatory Reconsideration of the decision to close the case given the current disruption to postal services.1
