Hi , my son has autism, he is 16 years old and up to now was on DLA we applied for PIP and he was refused.
What I don't understand is that nothing has changed from him turning 16, he still has autism and daily challenges to get him through each day, he has been given his provisional licence early to help him drive due to dyspraxia , a 38 page report from his OT.
How can his age change his disability?

His age hasn't changed his disability. PIP is completely different to what DLA is and the criteria is completely different. Someone transferring from DLA will not automatically be entitled to PIP.It does help to understand the PIP descriptors and criteria when applying. Have a read of this. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteriaYou can challenge that decision by first requesting the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR) within 1 month of the date of the decision. You should put this in writing stating where and why you think he should have scored those points. Most MR decisions remain the same, if this happens you can proceed to Tribunal. I'd advise you to get some expert advice from an agency near you. https://advicelocal.uk/
