I currently receive PIP for payments for about 2yrs and ESA for the last 4 months as I have a disability that has effected the amount of work I can do. Due to failed spinal surgery 4 months ago I have been unable to work. I have recently received a letter from the Jobcentre informing me that I am no longer expected to work due to my worsening spinal condition and the result of the failed surgery. Will this change in circumstances effect my PIP points and the possibility of claiming the Motobility component of PIP please?

Hi welcome to the community my name is Jaide and I'm a member of scope who's had spinal surgery twice I'm sorry that it went wrong for you. The coffee lounge can be a good place to get started where there are fun and games to be had.

No, it has no bearing on the PIP award. The Work Capability Assessment decision only applies your ESA. Have they said you will be put in the Support Group or the Work Related Activity Group.

If you want your PIP to be reassessed you would have to notify a change of circumstances and will have to go through the process of completing a new health questionnaire and a reassessment. The whole award will be reviewed.

Have you checked to see if you might have any entitlement to Universal Credit. You can use a benefits calculator to give you an idea

    Hello @Roadster

I just wanted to let you know, I've popped your post over to our PIP, DLA and AA section so more people can see it :)

I see Calcotti has already answered, do you feel things are clearer? I'm so sorry your condition has got worse and you are unable to work. If you don't mind me asking, what work did you do?

Hi Calcotti, I am now in a support group. Not sure what this is, but I am now in it apparently..

Support Group means your money will increase to £117.60/week from the 14th week of your claim. You don't need to send any further fit notes or attend any appointments.
Your Support Group award will continue for as long as you remain entitled to it.

Just adding that if you do claim UC then your ESA will be deducted in full.

If universal credit is means tested then I won’t be entitled to it as I have savings. My enquiry was more to do with the Motobiity scheme as my ability to walk has been severely impacted following nerve damage caused during my back op.

Yes it's means tested. Savings/capital of more than £16,000 will exclude you from claiming. For every £250 or part there of over £6,000 and there's a £4.35/month deduction. If you live with a partner you claim as a couple.
Before reporting any changes for your PIP award you should get some expert advice.

That’s fine, UC is indeed means tested and you are excluded you have savings over £16,000. Not every body is aware they may be able to get both so just wanted to check that you did,
