edited January 2023 in Universal Credit (UC)
Made my claim for Universal credit 02/09/22 and submitted first fit note 07/09/22..fit notes have been constant thereafter. My assessment period has been  02 to 01with  payment date 8th of month...starting 02 September...to 01 October.  Attended my medical assessment 15/12/22 and received a note on my journal of successful lcwra award 21/12/22. The note informed no further fit notes would be required and contact would be made within 7 days as to any monies owed and amount of the award...nothing has been added since. My January 8 payment has been received with standard universal credit amount nothing additional. Am i correct in assuming my first lcwra award payment should have been due 08/01/23? I do understand the dates could be rather  tight and probably haven't had time to recalculate, however i have forwarded these dates for confirmation from the powers that be... with no reply. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you reported your health condition on the date you first claimed UC (02/09) then your waiting period will be Sept/Oct, Oct/Nov, Nov/Dec... LCWRA starts from AP Dec 2nd to Jan 1st and first payment should have been 8th Jan. You should put a message on your journal under the payment section and tell them it should have been included from this month.

If you didn't report your health condition when you first claimed then your first payment will be 8th Feb. This is because there's a full 3 month assessment period waiting time for the extra money and it's then paid from the 4th month.

If that was when you reported your health condition then the first date above will apply, as i advised. When you claimed UC if you or a partner were receiving earnings and you didn't have the work allowance you'll be owed some extra money from this. If you weren't working then there will be no money owed.

Where a certain amount of earnings each month is ignored before the 55% deductions apply. If you have children on your claim you would have already had the work allowance anyway. Details here. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/help/work-allowance-universal-credit

Good afternoon, update from my post last week regarding qualifying dates for Lcwra. Finally had a reply earlier today to explain how my payment will be calculated. Initial Claim date 02/09/22 (my assessment period is 02 untill 01... payment 08 of month) First fit note dated from 07/09/22 declared on line following day 08/09/22. Payment details and message received today via my journal.. Award from 08/09/22...13 weeks waiting period untill 08/12/22. The award is then added from my NEXT available full assessment period 02/01/23 untill 01/02/23 making my award first payable 08/02/23. Is this correct?Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you

It's not a 13 week waiting period, this only applies to ESA. The waiting period is 3 full assessment periods and then it's paid from the 4th month after this.

Yes, that's correct if you didn't report your health condition on the date you first claimed. As advised here.
If you reported your health condition on the date you first claimed UC (02/09) then your waiting period will be Sept/Oct, Oct/Nov, Nov/Dec... LCWRA starts from AP Dec 2nd to Jan 1st and first payment should have been 8th Jan.

If you didn't report your health condition when you first claimed then your first payment will be 8th Feb.

Thank you for the swift reply...I was injured on 31 August..(self employed).I claimed on September 2nd as I couldn't work because I was on crutches!I then visited hospital on 3rd for X rays. Seems like they have ignored that bit  and decided I was fine untill the 8th. Why did they start my assessment period from the 2nd then...been self employed I can only receive Universal Credit if I am unfit to work. Thanks for your help .. explains it well.

An assessment period lasts for 30 days each month and the first day is the date you claimed so that must have been the date you submitted your claim.
UC can only be backdated in extreme circumstances.
The reason why they aren’t counting that first assessment period as your waiting time is because you didn’t report your health condition when you first submitted your claim on 2nd Sept.

So "report your health condition "means providing a fit note ...that makes sense . Thank you

No, reporting a health condition means just that. When you do this it then prompts you to report a fit note within 7 days.

The question is, did you report your health condition on 2nd September followed up with a Fit Note on 7th September or did you only report the health condition on 7th September?

If the former payment is due on 8th January, if the latter it is due on 8th February.

Thanks again for your patience and explanation. I have checked my claim details submitted on Friday 2 September 2022 ..New claim details submitted " my name" has a health condition that restricts his ability to work or look for work . It's in black and white on September 2 ...would this make a difference of one month's payment .?..is it worth persuing or do they not make mistakes.? Thanks again

Yes that does make a difference as advised here.
If you reported your health condition on the date you first claimed UC (02/09) then your waiting period will be Sept/Oct, Oct/Nov, Nov/Dec... LCWRA starts from AP Dec 2nd to Jan 1st and first payment should have been 8th Jan.
As advised in my first comment, put a note on your journal under the payment section and tell them that you first reported your health condition on the same date you started your claim. You then submitted your fit note on 8th Sept, which is within the 7 days required. Therefore your first payment should be 8th Jan and not 8th Feb.
